Rhombus Diagonal Formula
The main property of diagonals of a rhombus is that they intersect at right angles, dividing the internal space of the figure into four absolutely identical right triangles. To find the diagonal of a rhombus, knowing the side and angle, it is possible through trigonometric relations in one of these triangles. The angle in the triangle will be half the angle of the rhombus, and the diagonal will be twice the value of the known side. Since the known side of the triangle (it is the side of the rhombus) is a hypotenuse, therefore, the legs will be equal to the products of the sinus and cosine of half of the known angle by the hypotenuse. The formula is:
d = a\sqrt{2+2cos(\alpha)}
Where: d is the diagonal length of the rhombus, a is the length of the side of the rhombus, and α is the angle.
With our calculator and formula, you can easily find the diagonal of a rhombus. Whether you are a student, teacher, or professional, our free tool can save you time and effort.
